of friend & companion

The arabic word for friend is sadeeq and saheb-companion.
Friend is sadeeq, from the same root the arabic word "sidq" is derived.
Sidq means honesty, sincerity, truthful in sayings, deeds or intentions.
So, your sadeeq means the one who is honest and sincere with you. He tells you the truth out of his love and care, without denying you the right to visualize matters clearly.

Companion is saheb(sahabat), which shares roots with the verb "yas-hab", to accompany. So your saheb is the one who accompanies you through the different path of your life. the Islamic expression always recommended in Islamic literature, "good company", thus means the good companion who accompanies you sincerely in this life. Throughout the tough incidents and rough path of this life, he would be honest with you, sincere and truthful. He would never fool you or deny you the truth and would always act for your best interest.
Companionship should be a two-way system for it to work - he is your companion and you are his companion. It takes two to tango.
Unlike sadeeq, that can be one-way, and hopefully that sadeeq in him, will make us another sadeeq.

"God, bless our friendship"
